  • We’re Worried.

Our little Mini is not well. Eyes all gummy. She hasn’t eaten in days. She got to a pound and now is losing weight. She sleeps all day. Her urine is dark orange. We give her remedies and she rallies for a moment and then sleeps more. She may not be long for this world….too little, not enough vital force…….

On the other hand Xangaroo, is thriving and entertaining. Hale and hearty he bounces and pounces, attacks, retreats, runs at you sideways, all like normal kitten stuff……..

  • Houses that could be homes…………

I am getting more and more impressed with this new house. It is homey…..and I am still hoping that it is my homey. They say that there can be many snags along the road to purchase, so I am trying not to get too excited…..Okay, let’s get real. I am past excited about this sweet, funky, tropical house.

  • Kitties

I know all the pictures seem to be with the kittens sleeping. That is the easiest time to catch them on film. The white boy, Xangaroo, is growing and lively and mischievous. He is full of personality. Our little girl is remaining too sleepy, too puny. She eats but does not seem to be growing. Tonight she feels way too hot. I am concerned. If she doesn’t perk up by tomorrow, we will have to take her to the vet. She is totally adorable…..and about 5 weeks old now.

  • Back in the Fray

We saw a new house. Put a bid in…..arrived at a good price!!!

    So far, so good.

Now we hold our breaths again to see how the inspection goes.  Instead of talking about it now, I’ll wait to see if it happens and will give pictures and details soon.

Until then those little bundles are keeping us amused. We’re thinking of naming the white boy….Xanga…..his full name being Xangaroo. We have a few names for the little one…..mini cooper, teddy bear, and rocky racoon.

Thanks to all who have given me suggestion so far.

  • The inspection on the Canal house was not good. Definitely a fixer-upper, requiring more $$ and more time than we are prepared to  put in at this point in our lives. We made a new offer to the owners with this in mind. They refused it. So, at this time, we are back out there looking for our new home ……again. I think the owners were a bit…no more than a bit insulted that the inspector found so many things wrong……..they took the report personally. Then they attacked the poor old guy, Mike, calling him incompetent and inexperienced, among other things. They accused him of being over emotional about his findings. Ha! It took all we had inside of us not to burst out laughing. These statements coming from a man who was repeating his words in near hysteria. This is the reason to have a real estate agent and not go ‘for sale by owner’.

I think that we have found a new neighborhood that we are interested in though. Our new kittens will enjoy this one. We have decided that living across from the Baptist Church was not right. The house there was good, but not great. Not perfect. We are now thankful to the McGreedy’s for being themselves and taking back their offer before they delivered the papers.

I am beginning to feel like an experienced home buyer. Instead of being discouraged, I am feeling ‘fighting ready’, eager to get out into the fray again. Let me at ‘em…….Except now we are faced with the situation of pitiful little out there to look at.  Perseverance furthers. Grrrrrrr.

  • Irony.

A couple of days ago I was depressed because I had no choices in purchasing a house. Now, I have choices. Now I am in agony trying to decide. Life is a hoot. Life comes along and kicks you in the pants and says ‘so there!’. Life has a sense of humor.

So, now, I am in agony and laughing at myself at the same time.

Is this the epitome of health or insanity?

  • The inspection is over and we are awaiting the report. Yikes, Mike the Inspector, found a number of things amiss. This house needs a new roof, a new air conditioner, and more. Of course there is also the sub-terrean termites which need to be eliminated. And there is more ……an official report with pictures arrives tomorrow.

The funny thing about the 3 inspectors today is that they were all named Mike. Mike, the sea wall inspector, Mike, the termite inspector and of course, Mike, our main man.

The other funny thing is that the owners have become very emotional about the information coming in from Mike. The current owner is accusing Mike of being too emotional about the information. I think we have a situation on our hands. It will be delicate to handle them. Funny how we can be emotional about factual things when money is involved. And I mean some big bucko’s. I think all the repairs will come to at least $20,000. I think the owners are going to be hysterical by the time we meet with them tomorrow night.

Now, here is another funny thing. The McGreedy’s real estate agent called us today to offer us the house at the price we want.  Remember this is the second call. The last time they offered us at this price and after we signed the contract, they reneged. What a riot! They think we are going to fall for the ole carrot again?

So, we have this great house in our back pocket…..well, it is on the water and has a nice pool….the house is a fixer upper.

The other house looks to be in  our other pocket. It is great inside, needs no work, is a nice price. But it is in a less desirable neighborhood and doesn’t have a view.

  • Holding our breaths……..

We found another home that we are mightily interested in purchasing. This one is better in a couple of ways…….but not in others. The across the street neighbors in the McGreedy house was the Baptist Church, parking lot and all.

In the new one, let’s call it the Nice Peoples house…..is the Canal……intercoastal and ocean access (3 miles away).

Click for a Larger Image I think we can safely say that this part is tantalizingly better. (no offense meant to any Baptists).  Being an older home it will need a little more inside work before we can move in……but…….

During our second viewing of the place, the local animals gave us a treat…..we saw: one 3 foot alligator, 2 big turtles, 3 big green parrots, 4 mutton flying fish….all together now….and a partridge in a pear tree…….

Okay, no pear tree, but there is a tangerine tree, a orange tree and a kumquat tree.

Most important it has the square feet we require and the pool that we will desperately need if we are not to be on the ocean beach. I would have never imagined that the concept ’desperately need a pool’. But then again, I would have never imagined myself living in Southern Florida….so here I am, and now I do.

Tomorrow is the inspection, so if nothing major is discovered, we will proceed to the next step.

Since we are holding our breaths right now, I think after tomorrow we will allow ourselves to get really excited.

By the way, it is difficult to write a blog when you have two kitties sleeping on your chest.

  • Choices and Decisions – Part 2

For the record,it is harder to have no choices than it is to have too many choices. If there are no choices then making a decision is a moot point.

I prefer the exquisite torture of ‘which one’. I love examining the pros and cons of each choice. It is like trying on different hats in a haberdashery. Even if you walk out without a purchase, it can be a satisfying experience.

At this moment we have no choice in houses. We looked at all the properties in our price range. There isn’t one we could live in and there aren’t any new ones to look at.

I’m sitting here with the energy that says ‘Let’s go, I’m ready”. It’s like being all dressed with no where to go. I hate this internal feeling. A Holiday Weekend with time to spare and no one is available to play.

Guess I’ll go to the beach.

  • Choices and Decisions

I heard about Ragdoll Cats. They sounded terrific, cute playful and floppy. Not cute, beautiful. Affectionate. They sounded attractive to me. I wanted a cat, then we decided on a kitten. Already 2 decisions under our belts.

More choices….check out all the websites. Find a cattery nearby. Make phone calls to friends and talk to vets of various ilks. Excitement builds. We make the choice to hold on and do more research.

Ouch, Rags cost lots of money. Do more research, find out they are cheap at the price. All the care taken with their breeders, getting a healthy kitten, guaranteed personality, guaranteed looks. Testimonials. Happy customers. Supporting a good cause. Supporting healthy animals. All come neutered, clean, cute. Nice and tidy. I am ready to pounce. Kittens aren’t ready for 12 weeks. I am prepared to wait. Decisions solidified.

Word comes of some kitten available right now. I like that. It fits my immediate gratification self. They are strays, they are rescued kitties. There are a lot to choose from. I run over to have a look see. Wow, lots of decisions. No wait. Decide now, take them home. What the hell! I pick 2 of them and take them home.

Decisions change. Choices get made in spite of them.

I have nothing against the breeding of specific lines of cats. It is a whole world that is highly controlled and produces wonderful animals.

But in my heart I guess I am a mutt girl. A rescuer. A chance taker. I forgot about the guaranteed personality and look. I opted for street kids, the wild ones. I made my decision and am happy with it. These guys are orphans. There wee lives have already been harsh. They are survivors.

Now there are more choices. They need names.

They are both cute, happy, affectionate, and playful guys.  The white one is a 5 week young boy. The orange blue eyed girl is only 3 weeks. They follow us around and make us laugh. Their purr boxes are loud and happy. They play and run, leap sideways, and pounce then fall over and sleep for a bit and do it all over again. They make choices easily.
